New Technologies to anticipate in the future

Facebook changed its name to meta. Is it the start of a technologically driven future or just the start to the end of humanity? I’ll leave this question to your own imagination. But it certainly doesn’t look like the world is going to end anytime soon. So why don’t we just look at the bright side of “The Future” and take full advantage of the opportunities and possibilities coming to us along the way.

In this article, I have written short descriptions about the technologies we can expect in the future. You see right now, we are in the middle of a huge transformation where we are not underestimating the power of technology but we also have a little idea of what’s coming. Here are a few examples:

1. Li-Fi

Li-Fi (Light- Fidelity) is actually the transmission of Wireless Internet through Light. I mean how cool would it be where you can connect high-speed internet by just flicking your light switch. Light travels at extremely fast speeds, so Li-Fi connections will occur almost instantaneously. This idea was proposed by Harald Haas way back in 2011 but is still not very common as it is currently in its introductory stage.

Light Fidelity

Li-fi, when it was first introduced faced criticism as we cannot have lights on for the whole day. It’s not necessary and it’s definitely not good for the environment. The concept of Li-fi is pretty amazing but we still have to work a bit more to find an optimal solution for it to be implemented properly.

2. Virtual and Augmented Reality

Virtual reality uses a headset to place you in a computer-generated world where you can explore where scenes and objects appear to be real. Augmented reality, takes digital images and layers them on the real world around you through the use of either a clear visor or smartphone.

Virtual vs Augmented Reality

With this type of technology in the future, you can expect people walking on the streets with virtual headsets or moving their hands in the air instead of using the screen in their pockets. I mean it’s kind of like “The Matrix” where you cannot find the difference between what’s real and what’s not or what seems to be real but is actually not real. That doesn’t make any sense but we might start questioning reality after this.

3. Blockchain

The concept of blockchain is quite complex to understand. It can be essentially described as a system of chains of blocks connected together where digital currencies can be traded, stored, and retrieved. It is so secure that it is practically impossible to hack or cheat the system. Although it is not a new notion, it is getting more and more popular day by day. Blockchain can be thought of as a shared database that is public and distributed everywhere. With things like NFTs(Non-Fungible Token), Web3 , DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) and Cryptocurrencies, the importance of blockchain in the coming years cannot be understated.

4. Artificial Intelligence(AI) in Healthcare and Agriculture

The phenomenon of AI and Machine Learning(ML) is not new today. Obviously, we had Ultron and Jarvis as examples of user interface programs in the Marvel movies, Yet we have only started using AI and are still in the initial stages of its implementation. Healthcare and Agricultural Industries will be massively transformed with the use of big data and analytics. A lot of research is going around about finding the right data sets and using the right ML models for accurate prediction. Early detection of diseases, finding patterns in plant growth, smart farming are some applications of AI in the agricultural sector. There are several applications of AI in healthcare as well. These include detection of malignant diseases, drug discoveries, end-to-end communication between patients and doctors, and much more. AI will make the world more Data-driven.

With increasing advancement technologies day by day, several opportunities are blooming. However, one must not get overwhelmed. As we are diving into a more technologically advanced world, we must not forget the aspects that bind humans together. Right now indeed is a great time to be alive.
